What’s in a Name?

Occitania is renowned for its history, but one of the things it is less well known for is its surprisingly rich landscape of menhirs, dolmens and other neolithic ruins. Our domaine is situated on the territory of an ancient roman villa, the foundations of which now lie buried under sun-baked vines. A diminution perhaps of “Palatium”, the word “palats” is also an old french and occitan byword for standing stones. This region harbours thousands of megaliths, outdating even the Greco-Roman era. Arranged with mysterious poise and purpose, there are many such sites around our property, some even within walking distance. Come stay with us and explore these ancient relics from the dim mists of prehistory!
