Feast your eyes on Narbonne Cathedral
A spectacular visual treat, Narbonne Cathedral and the neighbouring Archbishop’s Palace form a unique ensemble, and together comprise the majority of the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville in the town of Narbonne.
The cathedral itself actually remains unfinished, despite the first foundation stone being laid in 1272! The plans required the partial demolition of the town wall, but the town council, who were concerned about the possibility of English invasion, refused to allow it. Subsequent wars and epidemics have left the cathedral with only the choir and transept completed (see images below).
